Engineering Plastics Machining

What are Engineering Plastics (Polymers)?

Engineering polymers are a category/group of plastic materials that possess better thermal and/or mechanical properties than commodity plastics (like PVC, polypropylene, etc.), yet don’t have the extreme properties found in the more expensive high-performance plastics. Engineering plastics are typically utilized for their simplicity in manufacturing while possessing traits that allow them to replace traditional materials such as wood or metals.

Engineering Plastics for High-Speed CNC Machining

The following is a list of select engineering plastics materials for high-speed CNC machining applications:

  1. Ertalyte® (PET-P) polyethylene terephthalate
  2. Hydex® 4101 (PBT) Polybutylene terephthalate
  3. Isoplast® Hydex® 100-300
  4. Kynar® (PVDF) Polyvinylidene Fluoride
  5. Polycarbonate (PC)
