Facts About Polycarbonate (PC)
Polycarbonate is an amorphous thermoplastic which offers high impact strength and a high modulus of elasticity. The material has a high heat distortion and absorbs nearly zero moisture. Machine-grade polycarbonate has either a slight blue or gray tint. It is not as clear as acrylic in machining grades.
Polycarbonate is known for its impact strength, however the material frequently exhibits stress cracking due to internal stresses, especially when exposed to chemicals.
Key Features of Polycarbonate (PC)
- High impact strength
- High tensile, shear, and flexural strength
- Excellent resistance to creep & flow
- Low coefficient of thermal expansion
- Low deformation under load
Key Applications of Polycarbonate (PC)
Machined applications requiring high impact strength and heat deflection applications up to 290 degrees F.
