Nylon Nylatron® GSM & MC 901, 907

Nylatron® GSM & MC 901, 907 Key Facts

MonoCast and Nylatron® GSM nylon are produced by direct polymerization of monomer to shapes of nylon polymer, within a mold at atmospheric pressure.

MC® 901, which is heat stabilized, is the basic form of MonoCast nylon, and is blue in color. Nylatron® GSM is grey-black, and contains finely divided particles of molybdenum disulphide solid lubricant dispersed throughout. While both formulations have similar mechanical, chemical and electrical properties, the molybdenum disulphide provides extra surface lubricity in Nylatron® nylon, without sacrificing any of the premium properties of the basic material.

The MonoCast process has made the premium properties and performance of MC and Nylatron® nylons available to many applications where large part size once necessitated the use of metal exclusively.  Now benefits of light weight (MC and Nylatron® weigh only 1/7 as much as bronze), reduced lubrication requirements, corrosion and impact resistance, sound dampening, elimination of pilferage (unlike bronze, MC and Nylatron® have no scrap value) and non-galling characteristics can be applied to any part within design parameters, without regard to size. Polymer has cast parts weighing up to 1200 pounds-a steel casting of the same size would weigh more than four tons.

The machinability of MonoCast and Nylatron® is also an important factor. Both materials can be machined on standard metalworking equipment to produce long-wearing, tough service parts.

Both MonoCast and Nylatron® nylons have long records of outstanding service as a multitude of parts in such diverse fields as paper and textiles, construction, mining, metalworking and material handling.
